Brightspace Parent Frequently Asked Questions

How can parents access Brightspace by D2L?

There are two ways to log in and learn about your child's learning in Brightspace:

  1. MyCBE login (parent access)- Personal parent access to Brightspace via MyCBE will allow you as the parent to view your child's progress and assessment information. This access will not allow you to directly access course content such as homework or news items at this time. From the Brightspace login page, click the “Sign In” button under Parents.
  2. Student login (student access) - Parents are encouraged to sit alongside their child as their child logs in to Brightspace to have meaningful conversations with the child around their learning.  Course content, news items and homework will be accessible in this way. From the Brightspace login page, have your child click the “Sign In” button under CBE Students and Staff.

MyCBE has changed / I need help accessing MyCBE

A new parent access for MyCBE is available through PowerSchool. Parents will need to create a new account before being able to access Brightspace.
Please contact your child’s school for more information and help around creating your MyCBE account.

Will parents be able to see the calendar or news items in a course?

Currently with personal parent access, parents will only be able to see student progress and assessment through the user progress tool.  Parents will not have access to see the calendar or news items.
If you wish to view a course calendar or news items, parents are encouraged to sit alongside their child as their child logs in to Brightspace to have meaningful conversations with the child around their learning.  Calendars and news items will be accessible in this way.

Will parents be able to view content or download homework documents?

Currently with personal parent access, parents have no interactivity with course content. They can view a list of content topics in a course, but they cannot view or download content.  Parents will see an error when clicking on content or rubrics in a course because they don't have access to these items.

If you wish to view course content, parents are encouraged instead to sit alongside their child as their child logs in to Brightspace to have meaningful conversations with the child around their learning.  Course content, calendars, news items and homework will be accessible in this way.

When viewing student progress, why don’t all courses show the same indicators?

Teachers use Brightspace in different ways. Teachers can decide what information is relevant for parents to see around Student progress in each course.
For more information on how this tool is used at school, please contact your child's teacher.
